A Gentle Reset: Rediscovering Confidence Through Style

There’s something really special about working with someone not just to change what they wear, but how they feel.
Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Monique, a busy, hardworking single mum who, like so many of us, had slowly lost her connection with her wardrobe. Life had become about practicality, ease, and getting through the day, and somewhere along the way, her style (and confidence) had taken a step back.
Before we even looked at clothes, we started with understanding her.
We looked at her body shape, identifying what silhouettes would naturally flatter and balance her proportions, and explored colour, discovering the tones that would bring warmth, softness, and brightness back into her complexion. It was clear that when Monique wore warmer shades like reds and burgundy, she lit up, something we wanted to build on.
From there, her brief was simple but powerful, she wanted to feel like herself again.
She wanted clothes she could wear to work, out for coffee, on playdates, and even the occasional date night… but most importantly, she wanted to feel confident, elegant, and comfortable in her own skin.
Starting with a Wardrobe Reset
We began with a full wardrobe clean-out.
This wasn’t just about getting rid of clothes, it was about letting go of pieces that no longer reflected who she is today. Items from different stages of her life, pieces that no longer fit properly, and clothes that didn’t align with how she wanted to feel were gently edited out.
What we were left with was space, and a fresh starting point.
Building a Wardrobe on a Budget
Working within a budget was really important to Monique, so we focused on building a small collection of versatile, wearable pieces that could be mixed and matched easily.
We sourced items thoughtfully, using vouchers, exploring high street options, and even looking at second-hand pieces, proving that you don’t need to spend a fortune to feel good in your clothes.
The goal was simple: Less, but better, pieces that work harder, outfits that feel effortless
From Styling to Shoot
One of my favourite parts of this process was bringing everything to life through a photoshoot.
This is where my worlds of styling and photography come together.
The aim wasn’t just to create outfits, it was to capture how Monique feels in them.
We styled a series of looks that could take her from work to weekends, from coffee catch-ups to evenings out. Soft tailoring, beautiful textures, and flattering silhouettes that worked with her body, not against it.
And then we photographed it.
Because when you see yourself feeling confident, relaxed, and truly you — it changes everything.
The Result
By the end of our time together, Monique said something that meant the world:
She felt like she was starting to fall back in love with fashion again.
And that’s exactly why I love doing this.
For me, styling isn’t about trends or rules, it’s about helping people reconnect with themselves, especially during busy or transitional stages of life.
More Than Just Clothes
This experience was a reminder that what we wear can have such a powerful impact on how we show up in the world.
Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh perspective, a little guidance, and the right pieces to help you feel like you again.
And being able to capture that through photography makes it even more special.
If you’re feeling stuck in your wardrobe or would love help creating a style that feels like you again, I’d love to help.
